| An obituary in our family
records, which does not indicate from what paper it was obtained, reads as
follows:
"Mr. Camilla Calbitt Huxford - Native of Russellville, S.C., a resident of Mobile, Ala., for the past 41 years, residing at 159 South Carlen St., died at a local hospital, Saturday morning, Feb. 25, 1961 at 9:15 o'clock. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Hurley Huxford, Mobile, Ala.; four daughters, Mrs. F.D. Gramling, Mrs. P.J. Gallagher, Mrs. Melvin Toenes all of Mobile, Ala., and Mrs. John Bowie Gray, Wilson, N.C.; three sons, Ben Huxford, Ft.Walton Beach, Fla.; C.C. Huxford Jr., Brewton, Ala., and W.H. Huxford, Hope Hull, Ala.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Conger, Tifton, Ga.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services will be held from the First Christian Church, Monday, Feb. 27, 1961 at 10:30 o'clock. Interment will be in the Pine Crest Cemetery. Family request no flowers. Funeral arrangements by Higgins-Brown Service Mortuaries, Inc., Mobile, Ala." (Note: CC's middle name was misspelled in the obituary. It is written above verbatim. Correct spelling is Calvitt.) |

Register, dated Saturday, July 13, 1985, about Huxford, Alabama.
Originally the town was named Local. C.C.Huxford Sr was instrumental in
keeping the town going and they renamed the town after him.
